A 1,300-year-old beauty that sits on a mountainside that overlooks the splendid ocean painted in soothing shades of blue, Naksansa temple, located 4m north of the famous Naksan Beach, is worth the long hours of travel. Built by the ambassador of the 30th king of Sila Period known as Ui-Sang, the temple houses the Seven Story Stone Tower, Hongyaemun, and Dongjong, together with other cultural assets. In order to get into the temple, visitors must first pass through Iljumun and Hongyaemun gates, where black bamboos and tiled earthen walls fill the sanctuary. The Uisangdae Pavilion that hangs on top of a cliff, is where one of the paths from the gate leads, which was the meditating place where the old Ui-Sang used to spend his meditation hours. Hongryeonam, on the other hand, is a small Buddhist temple that is built above a stone cave. A stone statue of Haesugwaneumsang Buddha can be seen from the path of the hill at Sinseonbong.
