Hallasan Mountain is standing proud and tall at the very center of Jeju Island. Designated as a national park in 1970, there are 368 parasitic volcanoes called Oreums (peaks) around the main mountain, adding up to its wonderful features. Also called Mt. Yeongjusan, meaning “mountain high enough to pull the galaxy,” Hallasan Mountain is also known as the most remarkable landmark of Jeju island. With its immense and high valued natural resources, Hallasan Mountain is widely known by scientists for its geological value.
Over 1,800 kinds of plants and 4,000 species of animals (3,300 species of insects) have been identified; and this is an effect of Hallasan Mountain’s famous vertical ecosystem of plants that results from the varying temperatures along the mountainside.
The well-developed hiking trails of the mountain lead to its wonderful sites and to add up to the fun-package is that Hallasan Mountain is easy to hike. With hiking courses less than 10 km in length, it is possible to go to the peak and back in one day. However, the constantly changing weather brings a lot of wind, so make sure that you are well prepared before you start climbing.

Yeongsil – Nambyeok Bungijeom
5.8 km / 2 hrs 30 mins each way
– Gwaneumsa Trail:
Gwaneumsa Temple – Dongneung Peak
8.7 km / 5 hrs each way
Available facilities such as a Campsite (Gwaneumsa Temple area), hiking trails, mountain shelters, visitor center (entrance of Eorimok Trail), and restrooms are also accessible.
