winding staircase leading to the top of mireuksan

Description

Mireuksan Mountain is 461 meters high. Miresksan is located in Tongyeong (Gyeongsangnam-do) and considered one of the 100 best mountains in Korea. Because of its height, Mireuksan is not considered very tall. But it is home to a lush forest, valleys with pure water, odd-shaped rocks, rock caves, and ancient temples. Visitors can see the breathtaking view of the sea enveloping Tongyeong at the top of Mireuksan. Mireukdo is located near Tongyeong along with a number of other islands.

Hiking used to be the only option to climb up the mountain, but a cable car now carries visitors to a stop that leads to the top of the mountain so it is more convenient. Visitors can even see Tsushima Island (in Japan), Cheongwangbong Peak in Jirisan, and Dolsando in Yeosu when the weather is clear. A dazzling array of flowers can be seen at the top in Spring. Foliage can also be seen during Autumn. Mireuksan is a beautiful mountain to visit year-round. At the outskirts of the mountain are two ancient temples, Yonghwasa and Miraesa.
