Jogyesa Temple is the center of Zen Buddhism in Korea. Unlike many temples spread through out Korea, Jogyesa Temple is located in the heart of the city. Despite its urban surroundings, it is the main temple for the Jogye Order. Jogyesa Temple serves as a venue for important Buddhist events and rituals. One of the main attractions of the temple is its locust and baekseong trees. The beautiful trees provide much needed cover cover during the month and are believed to be over 500 years old. One of the baekseong trees measures at 26 meters and is designated as a national monument. Although Jogyesa Temple doesn’t offer the same scenic views as other temples located in the mountains or along the coast, it is the most covenientg and accessible when it comes to doing a tour in Seoul.
