Gyeongbokgung Palace

Bulit in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is known as the “North Palace” and is the largest and grandest palace of the five palaces in Seoul.

Don’t forget to visit the “National Folk Museum” which is located inside the palace grounds.

Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon literally translates to “Northern Village” This “village” is more of a neighborhood made up of houses built in the traditional Hanok style.

These hanok houses serve as residential homes, lodging, restaurants, cafes, galleries, museums, and more.

Insadong Street

Insadong Street was home to artists during the Joseon Dynasty. To this day, Insadong is still a center for the arts. Explore the many galleries, craft & pottery shops, teahouses, restaurants, and more.

Gwangjang Market

Gwangjang Market is one of the largest and oldest markets in Korea. Here, you can find a large selection of fabrics an other goods.

However, Gwangjang Market is mainly known for it’s delicious food stalls and restaurants these days.

Day 2: Seoul UNESCO World Heritage Tour

1) Changdeokgung Palace & Huwon Secret Garden -> 2) Jongmyo Shrine -> 3) Seolleung & Jeongneung Royal Tombs

This suggested itinerary covers the 3 sites in Seoul that have been designated as world heritage sites by UNESCO.

 

 

Chandeokgung Palace & Huwon Secret Garden

Changdeokgung Palace was the second palace built after Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1405. It served as the main palace for several Joseon Dynasty kings.

The back of the palace is where Huwon Secret Garde is located. The garden served as a resting place for the royal family, but today, it is open to the public. There is a separate tour of just the garden available.

Jongmyo Shrine

Jongmyo Shrine is a Confucian shrine dedicated to the perpetuation of memorial services for deceased kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. Jongmyo is the oldest royal Confucian shrine.

Seolleung & Jeongneung Royal Tombs

Seonjeongneung (Seolleung & Jeongneung combined) is the burial site of King Seongjong, his second wife Queen Jeonghyeon, and their son, King Jungjong.

The tomb of King Seongjong was built in 1495 after his death. The tombs of Queen Jeonghyeon and their son King Jungjong were added in 1530 and 1544 respectively.
